Vitality T20 Blast, 2018

MID vs SUR, 4th Match, Natwest (Vitality) Blast|Middlesex vs Surrey Who Will Win

The Big Picture

Middlesex and Surrey will begin their 2018 Vitality Blast campaign when they take on each other at the Mecca of Cricket- Lord’s Cricket Ground on Thursday night. Both teams will look to get their campaign off to a good start, after having previously won the title in 2008 and 2003 respectively.

Middlesex will be without their regular coach Richard Scott, who departed on Monday, but will be bolstered by the presence of Daniel Vettori. Middlesex have a power-packed batting line-up in Malan, Gubbins, and Hilton Cartright, ably spearheaded by Irishman Paul Stirling. Stirling had an imperious Royal London Cup and would look to carry his form in the Vitality Blast.

Overseas Stars and X-FACTOR

Middlesex will also be bolstered by their overseas signings in Dwayne Bravo and Aussie all-rounder Ashton Agar, while leg-spinner Nathan Sowter is expected to be their X-Factor.

Where:- Lord’s Cricket Ground, London

Surrey, on the other hand, has a power-packed line-up themselves this season. The 2014 finalist has been bolstered with the services of South African legend, Morne Morkel, who can provide a cutting-edge to their attack formed around the Curran brothers and skipper Jade Dernbach, and experienced off-spinner in Gareth Batty.

Overseas Stars and X-FACTOR

On the batting side of things, Surrey has two blockbuster signings in Aussie T20 skipper  Aaron Finch and Nick Maddinson, who lit up this year’s BBL for the Sydney Sixer, having accumulated 291 runs at a strike-rate of 145.50. But arguably, Surrey’s batting would revolve around the blockbuster duo of Jason Roy and Aaron Finch.  While Finch is in the form of his life, having plummeted his own record of the highest individual score in IT20 cricket, Jason Roy (677) was the leading run-scorer for them in the 2014 season.

With 253 runs in 13 innings at a strike-rate of 124.63, 20-year-old Ollie Pope was one of the pivotal members of their campaign last year. Pope boasts of a 360-degree play and can be an X-factor.

MID vs SUR Key Player

  1. Jason Roy (SUR):- Roy hit 13 sixes last year and was Surrey’s leading run-scorer in the 2014 season.
