India was outstanding in almost every facet of the game in the first Test match and a full 5-day encounter definitely displayed the worth of Test cricket.
India fought back magnificently well after being reduced to 41 for 4 in the first session of Day 1. Cheteshwar Pujara was standing rock solid and holding one end and on the other end, wickets were falling at regular intervals.
He anchored his innings well and got to his first hundred on Australian soil and in the process, he also made sure that his side was out of harm’s way. 250 was the score which India got in the first innings after winning the toss and opting to bat, this was not an impressive score but the way the Indian top order collapsed this score was definitely a reasonable one.
In reply, Australia’s first innings started awkwardly as opener Aaron Finch was done by a skidding inswinger by Ishant Sharma which rattled his stumps. The top order perished for the hosts as well but Travis Head (72) held the innings together and took the score somewhere near to India’s total.
In the second innings, India batted really well and ended up scoring 307 runs which meant Australia had to chase 323 but they fell short by 32 runs after a competitive approach in their second innings.
