It was a proud moment for the Goan Nuts as they win the Poker Sports League Season II beating the other ten city-based teams and bagged INR 2 Crore. The prestigious Poker Sports League is the world’s largest and only team-based poker league in which 11 teams representing 11 cities competed against each other for a whopping INR 4.5 Crore.
The grand finale was held in Deltin Royale Casino in Goa, and Goan Nuts bagged the first prize of INR 2 Crore, The Gujarat Falcons ended up as the runner-up team bagging INR 1.2 Crore and the third runner-up, Rajasthan Tilters went home with INR 90 lakh.
The 11 city-based teams were formed after having various processes of selection online for six months. Each team had one mentor, or player captain and the other ten members consisted of two professional players, two wild-card entries, two live qualifiers and three players from the online qualifiers.
In the five days of the Poker Sports League every day the Team of the day was awarded prize money of Rs 10 lakh. As the Season 2 of PSL came to an exciting end, Co-founder of PSL Amit Burman, said, that the scenario of poker has changed in India and the second installment of the Poker Sports League is the proof of it. He further quoted, “We are mere facilitators to give this sport the status that it deserves & establish it as a Game of Skill, by providing this platform to poker veterans across the globe. I congratulate each of the participating teams who fought hard to get the title & put up a brilliant show here in Goa to culminate Season 2. ”
Commenting on the intensity of Poker Sports League, the brand ambassador and Chess Grand Master Viswanathan Anand, said, that he would want to congratulate the winning team and all the other teams for showing their sportsmanship. He also added, “Today we witnessed some amazing match where we saw the tables turning with Goan Nuts taking away the glory at the last minute by beating the rest of the teams.”
Day 5 of the Poker Sports League saw a thrilling encounter of poker players one final time trying to outsmart each other to stay atop of the leaderboard and claim the title. It all started from Day 1 when Andhra Bullets bossed the leaderboard with 239,000 points and claimed the Team of the day prize. But they couldn’t hold off their early lead as the local team Goan Nuts set the bar high to 401,000 PSL points on Day 2. Day 3 saw the rise of the Delhi Panthers as they beat everyone with their 483,000 PSL points to claim the Team of the day title and Chennai Thalaivas stole the title on Day 4 with the highest PSL score of 539,500 points.
After fighting very hard for every point, one of the owners of Goan Nuts said to the press, “It gives us immense pleasure to take away the trophy and the prize money home. Our team has worked very hard to earn this title and hopefully will accomplish it every year from now on. Very grateful to our team captain Dhaval Mudgal who made this dream into a reality.”
The inception of PSL in the Indian poker industry has opened many doors of opportunity for the rising poker players from India and the season II showed the world that poker is no longer a taboo in India.
