Grand Poker League India has come on-board with PokerStars India, to change the way poker is played in India for once and all by organizing the first ever long run poker league that will run for two months. Earlier, we have seen Match Indian Poker League taking the onus of starting an online league for all poker enthusiasts in India but now with GPL teaming up with PokerStars, it is believed to be the biggest poker gala in India.

The inaugural season will kick off from May, where the poker enthusiasts across India will compete with each other on PokerStars India to get a ticket to the first season of Grand Poker League India alongside the chance of being recognized by any of the 6 first year teams.

Once the qualifications are done with the six GPL India city based teams, they will lock horns with each other for a 4 week long ‘regular season.’ Four teams will qualify from the regular season and would then compete with each other in the grand finale for the prestigious GPL India title and also for 5 Platinum Passes, worth approximately Rs. 20 Lakh, to the international PokerStars Championship to be held in the Bahamas in January, 2019. The prize pool of the PokerStars Championship will be INR 65 crores roughly to win so there are plenty of opportunities to live the great Indian dream, living life king size!

Each GPL India city based team will comprise 5 players led by one of the GPL India’s superstar managers. Vikram Kumar has been appointed as the Manager for the Chennai Sharks, Muskan Sethi for the Delhi Diehards, Abhishek Rathod will lead Alphas, Kavinn Shah will manage the Mumbai Jetsetters, Aditya Agarwal will command the Kolkata Creators and Vidwath Shetty will try to bring all glory to the Bengaluru Hackers.

Two players from each city will be qualified to team up with the other three remaining members chosen by the respective team managers from a the vast pool of qualifying Global Poker Index (GPI) ranked players during the Draft day which is expected to start for early to mid September 2018.

Once the draftees are finalized, the GPL India’s ‘regular season’ will start off with 6 teams ready to bluff, raise and fold their cards to outsmart their opponents. The six teams will compete against each other in 6-Max and Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em Poker variants online and live in GPL’s India Studio to decide weekly winners, based on their leaderboard. The grand finale of GPL India is all set to happen in November which will be a live-streamed, 2 day finale. The top four teams will go all the way to find out who would be GPL India’s first national champions.

It all started back in December 2017, when Mediarex established a multi-year strategic partnership with Kwan Entertainment, to give India her first Global Player League, in a dream move that will give poker enthusiasts to explore the various ecstasies and to explore the avenues that weren’t before.
