Poker in India is about to hit a new level as Global Poker League (GPL) have announced today its league in India. Yes! You read that right. Global Poker League India is soon going to revolutionise Indian Poker scenario.
The move was taken in a bid to grow the presence of the brand in the Asian market. The league has officially declared the first GPL India which will present six-city based teams. Mediarex Sports and Entertainment owned GPL will come to India with six city teams.
GPL after its success around decided to capture the Asian market, by launching the event in the world’s most populous country. Following a huge success in the Chinese market, the owners announced their further expansion in the Asian continent, by launching its yet another event, GPL India. The company is hoping an equally overwhelming response from the second most populous country in the world, India.
CEO of Mediarex Sports & Entertainment, Alexandre Dreyfus, always strive to “Sportify” poker. Dreyfus said he understands the Indian Poker is looking to establish GPL’s brand name and expertise in the local market.
Dreyfus also believes his company operates leagues, like online platform, TV studios, large international poker operators and players network, is all a unique concept for the Indian poker community. He further added, “Our ability to innovate and bring disruption, by promoting poker as a skill game and fun competition is unique.”
GPL India will present six city teams in the country. This will help in creating a national team based league which will help promote poker as a sport throughout the country. It would also bring India closer to the world poker community.
The poker player who has top scorers in the national GPI rankings in India would be able to participate in this league. All the other poker enthusiasts and an amateur player would also get a chance to try their hand at the roster spot in their local GPL India team.
The winner of the inaugural league will get a chance to compete against GPL teams from around the world in the GPL Association’s World Championships.
