After a winning start to the campaign, both Windies Women and South Africa Women would be hoping to carry the momentum when they lock horns in the upcoming Group A fixture on Wednesday at St Lucia.

While Windies Women registered a convincing 60 runs win over Bangladesh Women in their opening encounter, South Africa Women registered 7 wickets win under the DLS method over Sri Lanka Women in their first fixture.

South Africa looked all prepared with both bat and ball in their tournament opener. After Sri Lanka’s opening game was washed out, they reloaded against South Africa only to be thrashed by seven wickets. After winning the toss, South Africa opted to bowl first and pacers M Kapp and Shabnim Ismail proved the decision right by bagging two wickets early and giving no boundaries till six overs. Sri Lanka only managed 99-8 at the end of 20 overs which was easily chased down by M Kapp (38) and Skipper Dane Van Niekerk (33) after facing two early jolts in the likes of Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt.

On the opposite, Windies bowled out Bangladesh at mere 46 runs with help of Deandra Dottin’s fifer in response to their 106-8. Put into bat, Windies posted 106-8 in 20 overs with the help of Stafanie Taylor’s (29) and Kycia Knight’s (32). Deandra Dottin was chosen as the player of the match due to her 5 for 5 in 3.4 overs.
