Caribbean Premier League, 2018

Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Lucia Stars, 1st Match

The sixth edition of the Caribbean Premier League will get underway on Wednesday, August 08, with the defending champions’ Trinbago Knight Riders taking on St Lucia Stars in the tournament opener.

Venue:- Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad

Match Timings:- August 09, 2018, Wednesday at 05:30 AM IST

The defending champions, Tribango Knight Riders boast of a formidable batting line-up with the likes of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro and Darren Bravo. The addition of Australian T20 star and a tearaway marauder of the cricket ball, the potency of the top-order have peeked at an all-time high.

With the bowl too, the attack of the defending champions’ looks far from mediocre. In Sunil Narine, whose power-packed hitting against the spinners makes him a potent all-rounder and a key cog in any team; his off-spin bowling is still a force to reckon with in T20 cricket. Alongside Narine, Trinbago boasts of Dwayne Bravo; one of the best T20 cricketers going around.

Their opponents in St Lucia Stars had an abysmal 2017 campaign and will hope for a winning start against the defending champions’ in the 2018 opener. Although his form wasn’t particularly great in the GLT20, the addition of Australia’s swashbuckling opener, David Warner will lend potency to Lucia’s top-order. Johnson’s Charles horrifying form was one of the many reasons of St Lucia’s struggles last year. With the signing of Lendl Simmons, they seem to have addressed the issue and if the out-of-form Warner and Simmons can form a formidable opening pair, it’ll go in a long way in setting the tone for the side. Apart from all-rounders like Pollard and Darren Sammy, St Lucia Stars also boast of a potent fast-bowling pair of Kesrick Williams and Mohammed Sami. The duo had combined to claim 27 wickets for Jamaica Tallawahs last year.

Pitch Report:-

The pitch at the Port of Spain traditionally suits the spinners. The average first innings score in 6 matches played on the venue is 129 which drops to 123 while chasing.
