South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis will be relieved after victory in game one of the five-match ODI series after 2-0 drubbing in the Test. It was captain Faf who led from the front in the 1st ODI and kept his side out of any danger in the chase before South African bowlers wrecked the touring side’s batting.
Sri Lanka have an embarrassing record in the 50-over format in the past few years. The test series triumph was expected to change that a bit. It started with the failure of Sri Lanka’s opening duo, the middle order did put some resistance but South Africa bowlers bounced back in the later stage of the innings to restrict Sri Lanka to 231/10.
In reply, Quinton de Kock gave South Africa another solid start to set the tone. Together with Faf (unbeaten 112), de Kock added 136 runs for the second wicket, and that was the difference between the two sides. With a comprehensive win in their stride, South Africa would want to add another here.
