JLT Cup, 2018

Queensland Bulls vs Victoria, Match Preview

As the caravan of the 2018 JLT Cup rolls on, Queensland Bulls will take on Tasmania as the former aims to garner a winning momentum after suffering defeat in their opening encounter.

Venue:- Tony Ireland Stadium, Townsville

Match Timing:- Saturday, September 22, 2018, 05:30 AM IST

Queensland Bulls come into this match on the back of a 13-run loss at the hands of Victoria after they failed to chase down 341. Despite Mark Steketee’s 4-35 that had left Victoria reeling at 4-66, the Bulls couldn’t press home the advantage as Glenn Maxwell (80) and Nic Maddinson (68) stitched a 101-run stand to take Victoria to 240 in 48.3 overs.

Chasing 241, Queensland lost wickets at regular intervals against the relentless attack of Tremain (3-47) and Will Sutherland (5-45). Only three of the top-seven could get into double digits and it was really Mitchell Swepson’s 78-ball-77 in a 77-run-partnership with Xavier Bartlett (28) which lent respectability to their final score of 227 in 46.5 overs.

With a chastening defeat, Chris Lynn’s side will look for an improved performance. It wouldn’t be easy though against a Tasmanian side who is coming on the back of a comprehensive 65-run win over Victoria. Matthew Wade’s swashbuckling 74-ball-117 was at the heart of Tasmania’s win as the wicket-keeper batsman laid into Tremain (1-80 in 8 overs) and Will Sutherland (2-51) to form a 170-run opening stand with Ben McDermott (56).

Defending 322, Thomas Rogers (4-53) and Clive Rose (4-42) claimed four wickets each to derail Victoria’s charge and restricted their side tp 256 in 47.2 overs- 65 runs adrift of the target.

QUN vs TAS Key Players:-

Queensland Bulls:-

  • For Queensland Bulls, Max Byrant (45) and Mitchell Swepson (77) were the lone performers in an otherwise insipid batting display against Victoria. They’ll hope the likes of Chris Lynn, Sam Heazlett and Joe Burns come up with the goods against Tasmania.
  • On the bowling front, Mark Steketee rocked Victoria’s top-order with a spell of 4-35 in nine overs. He, along with Billy Stanlake (1-65) and Mitchell Swepson (2-51) will be the cornerstone of their bowling attack.

  • Tasmania rode on a brilliant 170-run opening stand between Matthew Wade (117) and Ben McDermott (56). They’ll once again be the cornerstone of their batting might.
  • Thomas Rogers (4-53) and Clive Rose (4-42) claimed four wickets each to end Victoria’s challenge in their last game.
