Ford Trophy, 2018
Northern Knights vs Wellington Firebirds, 10th Match | NK vs WEL WHO WILL WIN
As the caravan of the 2018 Ford Trophy rolls on, Wellington Firebirds will take on Northern Knights in what is expected to be a pulsating encounter at the Basin Reserve.
After suffering a 13-run defeat in their last fixture against Auckland Aces, the Firebirds stormed back valiantly to rout Otago by 193 runs.
The win was set-up by Andrew Fletcher’s pristine 125 off 150 balls. After losing Malcolm Nadal cheaply, Fletcher stitched a 152-run stand with Devon Conway (74) and followed it up with another century stand with Michael Bracewell (66) to help his side post 6-301 in 50 overs.
Fletcher’s batting effort was backed up by Wellington’s bowling unit as Hamish Bennett (2-15), Jimmy Neesham (3-17) and Malcolm Nofal (2-4) ran through Otago’s batting unit to script a towering 193-run win.
They’ll now face the Northern Knights, who are still looking to notch up their maiden win of the tournament. While they lost their opening two games to Auckland Aces (by 2 wickets) and Otago (by 9 wickets), their last fixture against the Central Districts ended in a washout.
