Kuwait Women and Malaysia Women lock horns against each other in an ICC Women’s Qualifier Asia 2019 tie. China, Hong Kong, Nepal, Thailand and UAE are among other nations in the Asian leg of the tournament. The top spot in the competition would ensure qualification for both Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 and the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2020.
Confident Malaysia coach on the qualifiers
“The first two matches will be very important but UAE and Thailand are the toughest teams. We will try our best to do well. What I have found before is that power-hitting needs improvement. We have worked on hitting to the boundaries especially when playing against the boys’ Under-19 and Under-16 teams. Confidence is high in the team and I am hoping to get team score 100 to 120 runs for us to be competitive. Now, they are averaging 80 to 100 runs but if we can get a big score, we can win matches.”
Malaysia captain, Winifred Anne Duraisingam
Playing in this tournament is great experience for us, we are all working really hard to make our country proud and qualify for the next stage.
Kuwait captain, Maryam Omar
Women cricketers in Kuwait have a lot of potential and talent, tournaments like this will definitely support us and spark our ambition to get better.
