Pakistan Super League, 2019 | Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans, 4th Match | ISL vs MUL Who Will Win
After a fantastic opening ceremony garnished with a high scoring game which saw the defending champions starting their campaign on a positive note, they now will face the Multan Sultans in their second match of the season. This would be the second match for Multan Sultans as well who collided with Karachi Kings in their tournament opener.
The story of the opening encounter
Islamabad’s title defence started against Lahore Qalandars who had a terrible last season where they finished last on the points table. United’s won the toss and asked Lahore to have a go with the bat, the openers Fakhar Zaman (65 off 43) and Sohail Akhtar (37 off 30) stitched a 97 runs stand for the opening wicket in just 10.4 overs.
The duo were all over the Islamabad’s bowler which resulted in setting the base for the middle-order. Islamabad though had different plans as their bowlers ripped through Lahore’s middle-order and they could only manage 171 which was easily 30-40 runs short after the start they got.
Islamabad’s reply saw some vital contributions here and there after almost every batsman got a start. It was complete teamwork with Luke Ronchi starting the innings with a blistering 27 to his name from 17 deliveries followed by Cameron Delport’s 24 and Hussain Talat’s 37 off 30.
In the end, it was Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf who carried their bat through by remaining unbeaten on 36 and 23 respectively and ensured the target was reached with 4 balls to spare.
