Windies tour of India, 2018
India vs Windies, 5th ODI | IND vs WI WHO WILL WIN
After hammering the Windies by a record 227 runs at
What a no-contest it turned out at the Brabourne Stadium. After the Windies shocked India with a 43-run win art Pune, the hosts flexed their muscles in the succeeding game to notch up a 227-run win- their highest in terms of runs against a Full-Member side.
The 4th ODI also confirmed that Virat Kohli, after all, is a human. The Indian captain, who came to Mumbai after stroking three tons in as many matches, endured a rare failure when he nicked off to Kemar Roach for 16. Kohli’s failure gave a chance to Ambati Rayudu to stake his claim to the No.4 spot and bring the revolving door to a halt.
The Andhra batsmen achieved that with disdain as he stitched a 211-run stand (fifth-highest third-wicket partnership for India) with Rohit Sharma (162) to bring up his 3rd ODI hundred. Rayudu’s ton was only the third hundred by an Indian No.4 since 2015 to help the home side post a mammoth 377 in 50 overs.
India’s bowling reserves have had a bit of a hiding in the first two ODIs which forced the think tank to bring back but at Mumbai, Khaleel Ahmed showed as to why he could be persisted with to help India achieve variety in their bowling. Khaleel bowled full and swung the ball into the right-hander to claim three wickets as the Windies- for the first time in the series suffered a complete meltdown and if not for Jason Holder’s half-century looked prime for their heaviest defeat in ODI cricket (257 vs South Africa, 2015 World Cup).
With Ashley Nurse- the most effective bowler for the Windies thus far, doubtful for the fifth ODI, the likes of Kemar Roach and Jason Holder will need to spearhead the bowling department if they are to stop the rampaging Indian batting unit and force a 2-2 draw in the 5-match series.
This will be the first one-day International match at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram and with uncertainty over weather conditions, it will be a tricky affair for the captain’s to decide what to do at the toss.
