Once again it was the Indian spin department which went berserk to outdone the Blackcaps and eventually, the visitors clinched the second ODI quite comprehensively by 90 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match ODI series.
With teams now gearing up to head into the third ODI, the only thing on India’s radar will be to seal an ODI series after 10 years on New Zealand soil, meanwhile, the Blackcaps will look to stay alive in this series and leave something to cheer about for their fans and make this series competitive.
Talking about the last game, Virat Kohli won the toss and did not hesitate to bat first, his decision started paying dividends once both openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma got going and went on to stitch a 154 runs stand for the opening wicket which laid the foundation for power hitters to make their presence felt.
At one stage, India were cruising and a score of 350+ was definitely in their sights, but Ish Sodhi had different plans as he did not let the batters to score briskly of him as he gave away only 43 runs off his quota of 10 overs.
MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav got India back into the game with an unbeaten stand of 53 runs from just 26 deliveries which meant India end up with 324 runs on the board.
New Zealand were never in the chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Their top order collapsed in the pressure with Colin Munro and Tom Latham being the only two to cross the 30 run mark.
All-rounder Doug Bracewell played a lone hand amidst falling wickets with 57 off 46 deliveries but it was too late for them to make a comeback in the match. The spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav once again were at the helm of wickets with 6 scalps among them, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar got 2 and Kedar Jadhav, Mohammad Shami chipped in with one each.
