The third match of Super Provincial Cup will be played between Galle and Dambulla at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla. The Super Provincial Cup which will see the top two teams playing in the finals and the bottom two squaring for the third place will close-off on April 11.
Dambulla’s first match was against Colombo at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium which saw Colombo emerging victorious by 82 runs. Batting first, Colombo got to a fighting total of 238 runs courtesy opener Avishka Fernando’s 54, skipper Chandimal’s 42 which also included some lower order blitz from Chamika Karunaratne who got 57 from 53 deliveries.
Dambulla in reply could never get going as there top order succumbed under pressure thanks to Suranga Lakmal’s 3-fer and 4 wickets between Asitha Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne. An imperious bowling effort meant Dambulla could only manage 156 runs before being bundled out in 36.3 overs.
Meanwhile, Galle locked horns with Kandy in the second match of the competition and the defending champions started-off their title defense in style by registering a comprehensive 156 runs victory.
S Weerakkody and Kusal Mendis’s half-centuries helped Galle post a formidable 255 on the board which proved enough as skipper Lasith Malinga rattled their batting line-up on a mere 99 with 7 scalps to his name.
