The 47th season of the official List A cricket tournament in New Zealand-The Ford Trophy is scheduled to begin from Sunday 3rd December 2017. This is also the seventh sponsorship deal between New Zealand Cricket and Ford Motor Company. This is the main domestic list A, limited overs cricket competition being held in New Zealand since 1971-72 and is being sponsored by Ford Motor Company since 2011.
A total of six teams will participate in approx. three-month long tournament and compete with each other to qualify for playoffs and finally to lift the title. The Ford Trophy 2017-18 will run from 3 December 2017 to 24 February 2018. The six participating teams will play 28 games that include 24 group stage matches, 2 qualifiers, 1 eliminator and 1 final. The tournament is generally organized by New Zealand Cricket board and all the domestic cricket teams from New Zealand take part in it.
This year’s defending champion, Canterbury is amongst the strongest side and is also the most successful team with 14 titles against their name. Last year Canterbury defeated Wellington by 28 runs in the final and lifted the Ford Trophy 2016-17.
