Curtains have rolled down on the Test series and now its time for the ODIs to take the centre stage with the 1st match of the 5 match series scheduled to take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The hosts were exceptional in the Test series as they completely dislodged the visitors in the opening two games.
England did make a comeback in the final Test by winning it with a margin of 232 runs but Windies had already taken an unassailable lead by winning the opening two games.
Unlike the Test series, England would be a completely different outfit in the limited overs format led by Eoin Morgan and his side is the reigning number 1 team in the ICC rankings. It won’t be an easy task for the hosts to produce an upset even in their home conditions as they did in the Test series.
Windies, on the other hand, have been dealt with injuries to three of their star players namely opener Evin Lewis and the all-rounder duo of Keemo Paul and Rovman Powell. Their injuries meant that Carlos Brathwaite and Sheldon Cottrell have been recalled while John Campbell who made his debut in the Test series has been named as well.
England were amazing in their warm-up game against vice-president XI which was played in Barbados where they beat the bones out of the opposition by 171 runs to get themselves prepared for this series.
In the context of the upcoming World Cup, this series is definitely big for both teams as both sides will look to find their perfect combinations which will definitely set the tone heading into the mega event.
The surface at Barbados has always aide the slow bowlers as the nature of the surface tends to remain slow. This could well be the same which means spinners can make their presence felt here.
When – February 20, 08:30 PM IST
Where – Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados
West Indies Squad:
Shai Hope, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Darren Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Jason Holder, Carlos Brathwaite, Kemar Roach, Ashley Nurse, Oshane Thomas (Doubt: Sheldon Cottrell, Devendra Bishoo)
Jason Roy, Liam Plunkett, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, Mark Wood.
Players to watch out
Both teams are filled with natural stroke makers who can easily change the course of the game anytime. The visitor’s reliance with the bat would be on their top order which comprises Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Joe Root and Jos Buttler.
With Ben Stokes and an off-spin all-rounder in the middle-order Moeen Ali along with the skipper Eoin Morgan, their core strength is looking admirable. In the bowling department, Adil Rashid would be the key player along with a sure starter in Liam Plunkett.
For the hosts, the returning Chris Gayle will be the talking point for sure, the batting strength will depend on him and the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope.
The ever so reliable skipper Jason Holder who is a consistent workhorse with both bat and ball will be prudent for their cause for sure.
Meanwhile, their bowling will rely upon the likes of Kemar Roach, Devendra Bishoo and the young talent of Oshane Thomas.
Note: Make ENG vs WI Dream11 Team as per your discretion from the squad listed in the article.
