England vs India, 2nd ODI

After facing a mauling at the hands of India in the first ODI, a beleaguered England unit will face India at Lord’s in a bid to salvage the 3-match ODI series.

England was back at Trent Bridge for the first ODI, a venue where a few days ago, they’d pulverized the Aussie bowlers to submission and posted the highest-ever ODI total- 6-481. After racing to 0-71 in the first ten overs, they looked well on course for another Brobdingnagian total. But then, the perennial problems of English batsmen came to the fore- yet again. Kuldeep was introduced into the attack and in no time accounted for Roy (38), who went for a reverse-sweep and perished. The floodgates were well and truly opened and Kuldeep then proceeded to rip out two of England’s established Test batsmen in Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. All of a sudden, 0-73 had become 3-82, and England didn’t know where the next run would come from.

Venue:- Lord’s Cricket Ground, London

Match Timings:- Saturday, July 14, 2018, 03:30 PM IST

Jos Butter looked the most promising of England’s batsmen and in his 93-run partnership with Ben Stokes momentarily threatened India. Buttler was dismissed by Kuldeep thanks to an outstanding leg-side catch from MS Dhoni. Stokes scratched his way to a painstaking 103-ball-50 and in a bid to up the ante perished to Yadav. Yadav, then accounted for Willey to become the first ever left-arm leg-spinner to claim a six-wicket-haul. England scramped their way to a well below-par 268 which was chased down by the duo of Rohit (137) and Kohli (75) with breathtaking ease to pull-off a memorable eight-wicket win.
