Sri Lanka are conducting a whole domestic One-Day tournament to filter the best team for upcoming ICC World Cup. The Super Provincial One Day Tournament is set to begin when Colombo take on Dambulla tomorrow. Sri Lanka will hope that the competition allows them to pick the best possible squad for the World Cup in summer.
Colombo and Dambulla will lock horns in the first match of the tournament tomorrow. The match, which will be played in Dambulla, will be played by some of the finest players in Sri Lanka. The fact that Lasith Malinga is on his way back from IPL to participate, shows how the tournament is being taken very seriously.
There will be 6 matches between 4 teams in the tournament before a 3rd place play-off and then the final. The tournament spans over just a week and it will conclude on 11th April.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Chandimal will lead Colombo while Dambulla will be captained by Angelo Mathews. Both the teams feature a good number of quality players and it should be an exciting opener.
Sri Lanka are clearly reeling after that embarrassing one day series defeat in South Africa. The South Asian country will be keen to have a successful domestic tournament which gives its players the confidence to take to the World Cup.
