Martin Guptill’s resounding ton after returning from injury complemented by Henry Nicholls and Ross Taylor’s crafty knocks meant that New Zealand goes 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series with the second game scheduled to take place at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
After wrapping up Bangladesh for a modest total of 232 runs in 48.5 overs, the Blackcaps had to bat valiantly for the chase which was led by Martin Guptill’s ton. After missing out the last ODI and the T20I series against India, it was essential for Martin Guptill to get back into form right away and he did it with a magnificent ton to his name.
His knock of an unbeaten 117 off 116 deliveries included 8 fours and 4 sixes which made the chase way to easy for the Blackcaps.
After a relatively ordinary show with both bat and ball in the last game, Bangladesh are in a do-or-die situation now. A win here will keep the series alive for them, but a loss won’t do any good deed as the hosts will take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series.
