India tour of Australia, 2018 | Australia vs India, 1st Test | AUS vs IND Who Will Win
The Big Picture
And so here we are. After weeks of build-up, anticipation and in-depth analysis, it is finally time for one of the most revered rivalries of the modern-era to take centre stage with India and Australia set to embark on yet roller-coaster, that is – The Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The first Test will get underway at the picturesque Adelaide Oval on Thursday, December 06. The Adelaide Oval has seen many enthralling chapters in the coveted history of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Four years ago, twenty-two weeping cricketers against the backdrop of Phil Hughes tragic death played out an enthralling contest- one that saw the emergence of Virat Kohli- The Test batsmen.
Kohli continued his love affair with the Adelaide Oval to produce back-to-back hundred but ended up on the losing side, something he would dearly like to change this time around, especially keeping the mind that Australia is without two of their premier batsman in Smith and Warner.
But India should not take Australia likey. The likes of Khwaja and Marsh have good records at home and if the home side can post 350 they have more than a formidable bowling line-up in Starc, Lyon, Hazlewood and Cummins to rattle India’s fledgeling batting order that is over-reliant on Kohli. Kohli needs supports, and this is where the likes of Vijay, Rahul, Pujara and Rahane have to step-up if they are to script maiden Test win Down Under.

The Adelaide Oval is traditionally a slow paced track which bits like a spinning cobra as the Test wore on. However, the curator has left a grass covering on the drop-in pitch, making it a tricky affair for the captains to lock in their playing 11.

Batters- Murali Vijay warmed up with a hundred in the practise match against CA XI. The veteran opener will look for an encore of the last tour where he scored 4 fifties and a hundred. The choice for the second opener is a tricky one. KL Rahul has been battling with form while Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch will play their first Test on Australian soil. Harris is, however, coming off a great Sheffield stint and is worth a punt in your Dream11 side. The middle-order will be spearheaded by Virat Kohli, who has three hundred in his last three innings at the Adelaide Oval. Cheteshwar Pujara, Usman Khwaja and Shaun Marsh will complete my middle-order.
Wicket-Keeper- Both Rishab Pant and Tim Paine bat down the order. You can opt for either of them.
All-rounders- Travis Head or Ravichandran Ashwin? While Head can provide decent 5th bowling option for Aussies along with his batting, Ashwin will look to better his record in Australia. Aussie tracks are normally a tricky affair for visiting off-spinners. Thus, choosing Head is a safe bet.
Bowlers- In Starc, Hazlewood, Lyon and Starc, Australia has a formidable bowling line-up while Indian bowlers have been on a role this year. My choices would be Cummins, Lyon, Bumrah and Hazlewood.
Captain/Vice-Captain Pick:- Virat Kohli, Nathan Lyon, Murali Vijay, Pat Cummins, Shaun Marsh and Jasprit Bumrah.
