Ford Cup, 2018
Auckland vs Canterbury, 8th Match | AUK vs CTB WHO WILL WIN
The eighth match of the ongoing Ford Trophy will see Auckland Aces lock horns with Canterbury at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch as both sides aim to build on the winning momentum.
With back-to-back wins, Auckland Aces will look to carry the winning momentum as they prepare to take on Canterbury on Wednesday.
Unlike the first game where Sean Solia (63) batted like a lone warrior to take Auckland past the finishing line, the second match saw him getting steady support from Craig Cachopa (49) and Graham Beghin (39) as Auckland posted a competitive 9-276 in 50 overs.
Defending 277, Auckland got off to a great start as Mitchell McClenaghan (2-46) snared two early wickets but Michael Bracewell stroked a well compiled 120 and with able support from James Neesham (63) kept Wellington on course to victory.
But Neesham’s dismissal of William Somerville (2-54) triggered a collapse courtesy of Michael Barry, who proceeded to run through the lower-middle order to hand Auckland a 13-run win.
Canterbury, on the other hand, will look to build on their performance against Central Districts where their bowlers, spearheaded by Will Williams (4-34) ran through CD’s batting unit to script a five-wicket win for their side.
