The fifth and final ODI between Afghanistan and Ireland is here, and after witnessing a gruelling battle in the series, the final ODI will again be one interesting affair.
Afghanistan would be eyeing yet another dominating performance for one last time to seal the series, whereas, Ireland would be looking to make it 2-2 after the second ODI got washed out due to persistent rains.
Afghanistan made a terrific comeback in the 4th ODI after being on the receiving end for most of the game. They had a dramatic batting collapse in the first innings where they lost 6 of their crucial wickets inside 18 overs with a score of 81 on the board.
Asghar Afghan kept bowlers at bay at the top order with a lone hand of 54 from 70 deliveries, later on, it was Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan’s 86 runs partnership which kept Afghanistan in the hunt and helped them reach a respectable 223 in 49.1 overs.
It was a modest score to chase for Ireland especially after the way they batted in the last ODI, but tables turned right from the word ‘Go” as they found themselves reeling at 90 for 6 inside 30 overs. Aftab Alam dented their cause by picking 3 of the first six and closed off with match figures of 4 for 25 from 8 overs.
It was just a matter of time and soon Ireland was dismissed for a paltry score of 114 in just 35.3 overs.
