In yet another incident of an illegal casino running in the South Delhi region, came to light after the Delhi Police busted a casino den from the Southeast Delhi’s posh Pamposh Enclave area on Saturday. The casino den was run by ex-model actress, Anupama Jain at her house.
Police arrested 25 people, including the 50-year-old woman. According to the woman, she has been running the casino for the past 25 days. The woman who claims to be a former model works as an event manager at present.
People from Janakpuri, Munirka, Peetampura, and Greater Kailash were her clients. The police sources kept a close watch on the car movements around her house, in Pamposh Enclave for several days.
Romil Baaniya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, told that a team of police was formed based on the information collected over the time. Under Satish Kain; ACP Lajpat Nagar, Kailash Dalip Singh; SHO Greater and inspector Anil Malik, the police team raided the house. The team included three sub-inspectors, one-woman Assistant Sub-inspector and one woman constable, and three male constables.
Around 25 people along with the owner of the house Anupama Jain was found involved in gambling and betting activities. Of the 25-people arrested, 14 were players, and ten helpers along with the home owner.
The police have registered a case under Section 3/4/5/9/55, Delhi Gambling Act.
Police recovered Rs 7,58,000 in cash, 45 packs of playing cards, about 2,700 plastic tokens, a poker table, 25 mobile phones, counting machine and a small wooden game Bingo.
The police are further investigating the duration of the betting activities, taking place in the building. The gambling activities initially started spreading based on word to mouth. Further investigations are going on to identify others involved and those who frequently visited the place for gambling.
