Amit Kumar, a 26-year-old Delhi bookie, wanted to prove that he was not a loser and intended to send this message to his ex-wife who filed for divorce case on him because of his limited earning. He stole back the Black Audi which he sold to a Najafgarh resident in southwest Delhi. He kept back a key which helped his to steal the car from its present owner.
Initiated by the desire to challenge his MBA graduate wife, he chose the ways of crime to earn more in short-time. He involved himself with gambling, cricket betting, and land grab. “I did it because I wanted to show my (ex) wife I was not a loser,” Kumar stated. He even encouraged some of the southwest Delhi bookies then. It helped him to earn Rs 20 lakh through bets and gambling within weeks of his divorce.
He came under the radar of police department while the department was working on local criminals. “It was intimated that the criminal roams with a sophisticated weapon and will come near the DPS School at Matiala Road in Dwarka around 6 pm. The team swiftly acted on the information and a trap was laid, following which he was arrested,” said Shibesh Singh, southwest DCP said on Saturday.
The accused did his schooling from Jhajjar, Haryana as he was born and brought up there. During marriage in 2013, he has been working in a Janakpuri call centre and would earn around Rs 15,000 monthly. The deputy commissioner of police said that there were problems right from the start of their marital life.
Kumar invested Rs 14 lakh in buying the used Audi car in 2013 with registration number HR 26 BE 4852 as his status symbol. He used to post pictures of this car on his Facebook account. However, the ride of excitement ended when he was arrested from Dwarka, New Delhi. He was also carrying a high-tech revolver which was loaded with two live rounds.
