Recently nine persons who are involved in illegal gambling have been arrested from a weekly newspaper office by crime branch police. Assets of more than Rs 1 lakh, including Rs. 41,000 cash have been seized during the late night raid made on Monday. The arrested team also includes the office head. Illegal activities were going on in a building located in the Motikaranja area, Aurangabad. Over 100 cups of tea were consumed by the first floor of the newspaper office. A local informer was present in the tea stall during the orders were made.
Shivaji Kamble, the Crime Branch Inspector, said, “We received a specific tip-off that a weekly newspaper’s office was being used for illegal activities. Following this, we raided the two-storeyed building and found the men gambling.” As per the area police inspector, Hemant Kadam, the accused were granted bail on Tuesday.
The EOW (Economic Offences Wing) of the city police busted a leading gambling site a month back. Located in the jurisdiction of Vedantnagar police station, that gambling point was engaged in operating illegal activities. The police department arrested 50 people including several traders, businessmen, builders, and a MIM corporator from Aurangabad and nearby areas. Both the raids sent a strong message to the group of people associated with the illegal activities.
